Roulette is one of the most exciting and popular casino games in the world. One of the attractions is that it is relatively easy to understand how to play the game and how to bet. At its most basic Roulette is a random number game, trying to guess where the ball will land. You can bet by placing your chips on to a specific number, onto the reds, the blacks, a group of numbers or a couple of other variations. Where is the best place to put your bets? What is going to give you the best chances of winning big? In this article we take a look at a couple of things you should look out for next time you hit the casino.
How does Roulette actually work?
Roulette is a casino table game. There are two parts to it – the wheel where the ball is spun and the number is selected, and the adjacent table which has a mat detailing all of the numbers and the various betting options, this is where bets are placed. To play the game, all bets are placed on the table and then the croupier spins the wheel in one direction and then spins the ball in the opposite direction. The ball eventually loses momentum and drops into the wheel below and selects the winning number.
Inside Bets
Inside bets generally will have a higher payout if you win – but the downside is that they are harder to win because they are less likely to come up. Some of the most popular Inside Bets are:
A straight bet: This is sometimes also called a Single bet. With this bet you are betting on a single number. You place your chip in the middle of a number square.\
Split: A split bet is placed on two adjoining numbers – by placing your chip on the line between the two adjacent numbers you will win if either of those numbers comes up.
Street: This is a bet on three numbers in a single horizontal line. To make this bet you place your chip on the edge of the line of the number at the end of the line.
Corner: This is sometimes also called a Square bet, as you are betting on four numbers in a square layout. To make this bet you place your chip at the horizontal and vertical intersection of the lines between the four selected numbers.
Six Line: This is sometimes also called a Double Street bet as you are betting on two adjoining streets. To make this bet you place the chip at the corresponding intersection.
Outside Bets
You have more chance of winning with an Outside Bet, but the downside is that the payouts will be smaller. Some of the most popular Outside Bets include:
Highs or Lows: You can bet that the winning number will be low (1-18) or high (19-36).
Red or Black: You have a 50/50 chance of guessing which colour will come up.
Even or Odd: Again, a 50/50 chance of getting this right.
Roulette is a lot of fun – whether you are playing online or in a casino, get your chips ready and place your bets!
